ZAFARI PROJECT Winners of the Debajazz Competition
The second edition of the Debajazz Festival closed its billing with a touch of class. Espaloia Kafe Antzokia in Elgeta, standing-room only, welcomed the performance turned out by saxophonist Bill Evans, frontman of the Soulgrass Band. Moreover, the festival also served as the stage for live performances by the Zafari Project from Madrid, winners of the I. Competition for New Jazz Groups.

Zafari Project was born in Madrid in 2003. Since then they have played in different clubs all over the state, exhibiting their take on acoustic jazz. In 2004, they also took part in Ibiza and Getxo´s festivals as a part of Muestra Injuve Jazz. The two concerts given at Debajazz were recorded and from now until the end of the year they will complete what will be their first disk released in Spring by the label Errabal. The group presents their own themes, mostly composed by pianist Marta Sanchez and saxophonist Julio Botti.
