Just one year after the release of Haitzetan, Mikel Urdangarin already had another collection of songs just waiting to be recorded. The success of his first album, of which only a very few copies were released, encouraged him to embark on an altogether more ambitious project, with a more elaborate production process featuring many more musicians.
Badira hiru aste (Three weeks ago) is a work which looks back in time, recalling past events, landscapes, joys and sorrows. The majority of the lyrics (Basque verses, poems and prose) were written by the artist himself, although the Basque improvised poets Iņaki Aurrekoetxea and Arkaitz Estiballes also collaborated on occasions. References to Scotland are also evident in reminiscences of the singers journey to the far north. Many of the tracks are littered with recurring images of losers, drunks and unrequited love.
The album was recorded in the winter of 98 at Entzun in Bilbao with the collaboration of many first-class musicians. Of special note is the work of the violinist from Edinburgh Jonathan Bews, who will doubtless play a key role in Mikel Urdangarins future career.
